Take to the Skies: Atmospheric Flight Is Here!
The skies over our planets have been empty for far too long. Not any more.
This is one of the biggest updates we've ever made. You can now launch your ship straight from the ground, fly over the cities and landscapes you've walked for years, race other pilots, fight for your faction in the clouds and fly from the planet up into space and back down again. Everyone on the ground can see it all happening above them.
Grab your flight suit. Here's everything that's new.
Atmospheric Flight
Who can fly?
- Pilots fly their own ships, with their own loadouts and full piloting commands.
- Non-pilots aren't left out: you can fly your Luxury Yacht around the skies.
Where can I fly?
Atmospheric flight is enabled on all 10 base planets:Corellia, Dantooine, Dathomir, Endor, Lok, Naboo, Rori, Talus, Tatooine and Yavin 4.
(Kashyyyk and Mustafar are not enabled.)
Getting airborne
There are several ways to get into the air:- From a starport: right-click a starport ship terminal and choose Launch into Atmosphere.
- From anywhere outdoors: launch straight into your ship from your datapad.
- Call your ship to you: have it fly in and land beside you, so you can invite friends to board before you take off.
- Toolbar commands are available for all of these, so you can launch, call and land with one key.
- Escape pod hatch: riding as a passenger on someone else's ship, use the escape pod hatch to launch directly into one of your own ships alongside them.
Atmosphere ↔ Space
- Fly from atmosphere up into space: climb high enough and keep going.
- Land from space into atmosphere: come back down to the planet in your ship.
Auto-pilot
Long flight? Open the map, right-click any waypoint and choose Auto Pilot. Your ship will fly you there while you enjoy the view.No-fly zones
The big starport cities are no-fly zones, which keeps the busiest hubs clear of ships. Their starport terminals still launch you straight into the air.Everyone can see it
Atmospheric activity is visible to all players on the ground: dogfights, races, patrols and players flying past. The skies feel alive. The Skies Are Not Empty
NPC ships
NPC ships spawn at locations across every flight planet. The planet decides the difficulty, up to Tier 5, so pick your skies according to your skill.Scenic NPC shuttles
Want to see the sights without flying yourself? A new shuttle service NPC waits at the main travel port on each of the 10 planets. Book a scenic flight to any shuttleport or point of interest on the planet, then sit back and watch the world go by.(Shuttle flights are for civilian travel: neutrals, or Rebels and Imperials on leave.)
Atmospheric Racing
Think you're the best pilot in the galaxy? Prove it.- Race through courses in the sky against the clock, and see if you can top the leaderboard with the fastest time.
- Find the Sky Race Coordinator at the main travel port on each of the 10 planets.
- The coordinator launches you straight to the start ring, ready to go. The clock starts as you fly through.
- New Daily Mission: Atmospheric Racing. Race every day for extra rewards.
Atmospheric Flashpoints and PvP
Atmospheric Flashpoints
Support your faction in the skies!- Type /gcwF to see the active Atmospheric Flashpoints.
- Hold the ring and win the battle to earn GCW points, the standard flashpoint tokens and Space Battle Tokens (the Atmos tokens), which buy unique rewards.
- New Daily Mission: Atmospheric Flashpoints.
- Ground and Atmospheric Flashpoints now stagger, so you can do both. The timings are listed on your intel pad and the GCW terminal.
PvP in the skies
- Go open faction (SF) in the air, if you dare.
- Join the fight at Atmospheric Flashpoints.
- Or challenge any pilot to a ship duel.
- How factions work in the air:
- your ground faction decides PvP (who you can fight)
- your pilot faction decides PvE (which NPC ships attack you)
Space Battle Tokens (Atmos tokens)
Earned from Atmospheric Flashpoints and the atmospheric dailies, and spent at the space GCW vendors on unique rewards. Hope you're a pilot, or know one!(Imperials earn Imperial Space Battle Tokens; Rebels and neutrals earn Rebel Space Battle Tokens.)
City Patrols (Mayors)
New City Mayor option: spawn atmospheric NPC ships to patrol your city.- Residents are notified if a patrol ship is attacked, and who attacked it.
- City rank decides how tough the patrols are.
Disclaimer: each patrol ship costs 100 credits per city rank from the city treasury. Destroyed ships are respawned automatically, but slowly. Please keep this in mind if you enable it.
New Collections: Atmospheric Badges
Explore the skies! Fly to locations across the planets to earn 40 new badges.New: Pilot Combat Jewelry Set
A new 7-piece jewelry set made for pilots: a band, a ring, two bracelets, a necklace and an earring. Wear two earrings for the full 7.Every piece gives:
- Droid Interface Speed Decrease 2%
- Space Loot Chance +1
| Pieces | Front/Back Armor | Capacitor Max Energy | Capacitor Recharge | Shield Max | Shield Recharge |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | +2% | – | – | – | – |
| 4 | +4% | +4% | +4% | – | – |
| 5 | +5% | +5% | +5% | – | – |
| 6 | +7% | +7% | +7% | +5% | +5% |
| 7 | +10% | +10% | +10% | +10% | +10% |
- Works in space and in atmospheric flight, as soon as you sit in the pilot seat.
- Equip or remove pieces and your ship updates within a second, even mid-flight.
- Your current shields, armor and capacitor keep the same percentage when the bonus changes, so swapping gear won't refill them.
- See exactly what you get: examine your ship in your datapad while wearing the set. Each stat shows your ship's own value next to its value while you pilot it.
New: Storage Broker (inventory and datapad space)
Out of room? Visit the Storage Broker in Mos Eisley, right beside the World Boss quick-transport NPC (Pipa Roving)./way tatooine 3449 -4851 Storage Broker
- Each expansion adds +10 slots to your inventory or datapad.
- You can buy up to 5 expansions each: inventory up to 150, datapad up to 300.
- The price rises with each one: 5M, 10M, 15M, 20M, 25M credits.
- A confirmation window shows the price and the new size before anything is charged.
- Expansions are permanent and stay with your character.
New: Shipwright's Attachment Kit (Traders)
Shipwrights, this one's for you. Getting the best parts means stacking mods across all 7 crafting areas (Shields, Power Systems, Engines, Chassis, Boosters, Advanced and Weapon Systems, each with assembly and experimentation), plus Luck. Until now that meant juggling several crafting outfits. The Shipwright's Attachment Kit lets you combine them all into a single attachment. One crafting suit is now possible!
- Add a modifier bit for each shipwright mod (and Luck), each paired with a +35 power bit. That's one of each, 15 in total.
- Once the kit is full, create a single exotic attachment for a shirt, chestplate or weapon.
- The attachment only fits the item type you chose.
- Traders only. The kit is used up when it creates the attachment.
World Boss Portal
The Hollow Mother is now a destination on the World Boss Portal, as it already is with Pipa Roving.Character Selection Screen Overhaul
More useful information about your characters at a glance:- Profession and level, e.g. "Commando (90)"
- Faction: Rebel, Imperial or Neutral
- Pilot, e.g. "Rebel Pilot (Master)" or "Privateer (3/16)"
- Planet and server status
- The Galaxy column has been removed, since there's only one galaxy.
- Characters show "(Requires Login)" until you've logged into them once since the update.
- Cleaned-up layout, so no more clipped columns.
Ships and Flight Computers
- Rename your Flight Computers: right-click one in your datapad and choose Rename.
- The memory bank radial option is now simply Open Storage, so it no longer overlaps the other options.
- Fixed the names of programmed pilot commands in the Flight Commands window of your Flight Computer or astromech droid. Programs already loaded in your flight computer no longer appear twice in the list.
- Tuned game loading when your character is already in space, to prevent possible client crashes.
Ground Flashpoints
- The ground flashpoint system has been revised. It now recovers from a zone crash: if the zone running the flashpoint crashes, it fixes itself on the next rotation.
- Capture announcements: flashpoints now announce whether the Rebels or the Imperials are capturing, with one message per faction per flashpoint. This applies to both ground and atmospheric flashpoints.
Other Changes and Fixes
- Establish the Link (Mustafar): fixed the relay droid sometimes skipping a pylon and then walking the whole route back to place it, which made the event take much longer. It now goes pylon to pylon in order and places every relay in one pass.
